What Team Emperifollá Is Wearing This Sala Season

The time has come to dust off your finest fits and get your hair set just to hang out five feet away – at the sala. Jokes aside, sala season is by far the best time for family hangs and emperifollaera. And Team Emperifollá is already putting together their best looks to wow the fam this week.

Don’t know what to wear to the sala yet? Here are some ideas.

Frances, Editorial Director

I’ll be spending New Year’s Eve in my mom’s sala and I will not be shamed for bringing out the metallic dress I already packed in my suitcase.

Red is always a staple for my look during the holidays, especially if I’m spending them with my mom. This year I’m sporting a lipstick I’ve been trying all year by Reina Rebelde. It’s long-lasting and pigmented so I know it won’t go away with that first coquito sip.

I always choose comfort over anything but without sacrificing the emperifollá factor of the look I want to achieve. This fancy pajama set with chic feathers is the perfect to look elegant at the sala and be ready to sleep when the coquito hits too hard.

And, of course, even if i’m staying in, I always have to have nice shoes to complete the outfit. The bright color of these will add the festive element to the all black look.

ZARA, Mid-heel leather slides, $69.90, available at zara.com

Did I buy this dress to wear it specifically at la sala? Maaaybe.

Jokes aside, this dress will see what’s beyond the walls of my parent’s living room. However, I did purchase it knowing that la sala would be the first place I would wear it.

I used to take sala dressing (potential dressing patent right there) waay more serious. A cute dress would not do. Heels needed to be worn, alongside copious amounts of makeup. However, now it’s all about comfort with a hint of glam just so I still meet the approving gaze of my family.

Even though I wear hoops every day, not wearing hoops for sala season seems plain wrong.

These from Missoma are a favorite of mine because they’re basically three hoops in one. And you know what they say: the bigger the hoops, the bigger the heart.

Missoma, Trinal Radial Hoops, $136, available at missoma.com

Your sala fit isn’t complete without a good lipstick. I’m sorry I don’t make the rules. That’s just how it goes, and I think you can all agree. When it comes to lipsticks though, I normally gravitate towards orange-red tones but this year I’m leaning into the burgundy, rose-y hues.

GUCCI, Rouge à Lèvres Voile Sheer Lipstick, $42, sephora.com (Mildred Cameo – burgundy rosewood sheer)
